I was reading some stuff this morning about the Winter Meetings. This came across after the Shelby Miller trade from someone I follow who writes on the Rangers. Has there ever been a trade that huge in this league? That's an all-in gamble there. Also interesting to see what JoFer gets moved for (doubt he does, honestly) and what he'll cost. I just love Baseball and love seeing us getting to do what the big boys do.

I think its time for the Mets to get involved and start discussing Harvey at these prices.
I meam rumors from what the Marlins asked the Dodgers for in return for Fernandez? Seager, Pedersen, Urias, plus.

The problem is it looks like AZ was the only one willing to pay that price. And, with that setting the price point, if you want something comparable for Harvey or JoFer then you will be SOL because AZ was the only club willing to pay that much.
Still interesting to read and talk about.
It's almost like the Braves just redeemed themselves for the Elvis Andrus/Neftali Feliz/Matt Harrison/Saltalamacchia trade for Teixeira.
I love the MLB offseason almost as much as the regular season.

I'm a Red Sox fan and initially was unhappy with what they gave up to get Kimbrel, but after a while I became ok with it as prospects are no sure thing, Garin Cecchini was getting a lot of hype a couple of years ago and was in the top 100 prospects, he just got dfa'd. Will Middlebrooks I think also made it into the top 50 and he ended up a bust. After finishing bottom of the division 3 out of the last 4 years they had to do something to improve. If they had been winning things would have went differently.
It's a bit different than giving up the first overall pick from last year but after giving Greinke that contract they really had to make more moves to improve their team to start contending right away. The NL West is going to be interesting that's for sure.

Crazy deal eh? Worth mentioning that Dbacks just signed a new $1.5b cable TV contract - so a lot of money to throw around, and a big emphasis on 'win now' - doesn't change the fact that good young pitching seems insanely overpriced and team are willing to pay.
With these deals what are the chances that Billy Beane flipflops on trading Sonny Gray?
Also, on Greinke - assuming 30 starts and 100 pitches a start (big assumptions) he'll make $40,000 for a deliberate walk.
