The room wasn’t even very full, but Pirates brass and many of his teammates came out to support their teammate Curt Singleton as he announced his retirement. Singleton was at the mic along with his his manager and apparent friend Marcus Osborn.
Curt Singleton - “First and foremost I want to thank the people of Pittsburgh for all of the support and love they have given me over the years. I never felt like I belonged until I ended up here. The years I pitched here were the greatest of my career. I...I wanted one more run, but my body just didn’t hold up.”
Singleton goes silent and Osborn takes over
Marcus Osborn - “Curt has been a class act for us over and over. He’s always done what he’s asked. He’s been a model teammate and player. You could always count on him for encouragement to have a smile after win and to be inconsolable after a loss. When we acquired him in the trade we got him he was kind of a throw in. Who would have known you would have a guy like that as long as we did? Hell, in 2028 he was our only All-Star. He also was runner up to reliever of the year in that season.”
Curt breaks into a smile at that.
MO - The bottom line is he was integral to our title in 29 and will forever have a spot here if he wants it. As a pitching coach, an executive, whatever. Hell he could be a groundskeeper if he so desires.
CS - You know skip, I may take you up on that. But seriously. I didn’t make my debut until I was 27 years old. And even then I bounced around a bit. But this is home now. Thanks for all the great times and the memories. And thanks again to the people of Pittsburgh.
The scene erupted as Singleton’s teammates swarmed the stage like they had just won a walk off game. At that point we knew the presser was over.
