Back for another season, this is my attempt to predict what the 2027 season may bring us in the SBL! Add your own predictions below if you wish. Above all, this is for fun and chatter. No slights intended!
AL
Ty Cobb Division
Detroit Tigers: CF Salvador Martinez will hit a career high in home runs (25)
BUST: Missed 9 weeks of injury time, hit 12 home runs.
LA Angels: SP Andres Jimenez will post lowest career WHIP (1.19)
BUST: Close and although had a great season, posted 1.25 WHIP
Oakland Athletics: SP Zane Nicholson will win the AL Cy Young Award
BUST: Horrible prediction, 5+ ERA, 86 ERA+, 236 hits in only 212 innings.
Seattle Mariners: C Jason Brown will post highest career OPS+ (141)
BUST: Home runs and walks were up over last year, but posted a league-average 104 OPS+.
Toronto Blue Jays: C Mike Chamberlain will post highest career home run totals (30)
BUST: Hit 28 home runs. Apeshit in September or not, a full season counts regardless!
Larry Doby Division
Boston Red Sox: CF Mike Johnstone will post career high OPS+ (122)
BUST: Missed 6-8 weeks of injury. Posted below league-average 93 OPS+.
New York Yankees: SP Angelo Martinez will post WAR above 5
SUCCESS: 5.5 WAR this year for the young phenom.
Chicago White Sox: DH Jose Carlos Guzman will post a WAR above 8 again
BUST: A really good season, but hard for a DH to post 8+ WAR. Managed 6.1 WAR this season.
Kansas City Royals: CF Clint Frazier will post 2nd career 20/20
BUST: Played only 44 games, 2 home runs and 6 steals.
Tampa Bay Rays: SP Edgar Shaner will give up most home runs by a divisional starter (20)
SUCCESS: Ok, so he only made 5 starts. But i am taking it! 9 home runs (Oooph) did not lead the division (Cesar Ortega, 39, Yankees)
Rod Carew Division
Baltimore Orioles: LF Jose Rojas will lead all rookies in home runs (AND win ROY Award as well)
BUST: I'm calling this a bust because I'm an idiot. He played in 50+ games with the Twins in 2025, he is not eligible for rookie status. Still, Rojas hit 30 home runs, which ties Strickland of the Mets for all rookies. But I'm an idiot, so no dice.
Minnesota Twins: SP Alexis Washington will post a 4+ WAR
BUST: Missed 3-4 months of injury time. Managed 0.9 WAR.
Cleveland Indians: Will have at least one starting pitcher post a FIP under 3.75
BUST: 3.82 FIP posted by Irving Sawyer. So Close!
Houston Astros: LF Brian Smith will finish top 4 in AL MVP voting
BUST: Nice season, but not an MVP type of season. 3.5 WAR, .320/.388/.467 slashline, 124 OPS+.
Texas Rangers: SS Brian Drum will hit 7+ triples (professional high is 6)
BUST: Drum banged out 4 triples, falling short of this prediction.
NL
Mel Ott Division
LA Dodgers: Will lead their division in team home runs
SUCCESS: 227 round trippers for the Dodgers, nearest team was the Cardinals/Mets with 181.
SF Giants: SP Jesus Morales will post a 4.5+ WAR
BUST: 3.9 WAR, just missing on this prediction again!
Atlanta Braves: Pitching staff will post 1300+ strikeouts (1222 last season)
BUST: Regressed to 1,071 strikeouts this year by their pitchers.
St.Louis Cardinals: Team will lead the NL in fewest runs allowed
BUST: Cardinals finished 4th in runs allowed (697).
New York Mets: RF Harris Williams will post career high in WAR (3.0)
BUST: 1.0 WAR this year. Yup, i suck at this prediction thing.
Sandy Koufax Division
Miami Marlins: RF Jorge Vallenueva will post first ever 20/20 season
SUCCESS: 28 home runs, 22 stolen bases. Success!
Philadelphia Phillies: CF Mario Fuentes will finish top 4 in MVP voting
BUST: While he hit 33 home runs, just didn't play an all-around game this year.
San Diego Padres: SP Sergio Padilla will give up most home runs by left-hander starter in SBL
BUST: Gave up 27 bombs, but Tony Barron gave up even more, 40 for the Rays from Tampa.
Chicago Cubs: RF Manuel Solis will post career highs in home runs (22) and stolen bases (30)
BUST: Fell just short, with 20 home runs and 27 stolen bases.
Cincinnati Reds: SP Jack Cariston will post career high in ERA+ (108)
SUCCESS: Posted a 142 ERA+!
Tony Gwynn Division
Washington Nationals: SP Randall Delgado will lead all pitchers 34 and above ERA+ and WAR
SUCCESS: 4.7 WAR, 132 ERA+ finishing above any pitcher aged 34+ in both
Colorado Rockies: 1B Steve Hedgpeth will post double digits in doubles, triples and home runs
BUST: Missed 12-13 weeks due to injury. Doubles = 11; Triples = 4; Home Runs = 19
Pittsburgh Pirates: SP Ben Collier will allow single digit home run totals (below 10)
SUCCESS: Traded to the White Sox at the deadline, combined to allow 9 home runs in Pittsburgh/Chicago
Milwaukee Brewers: Will have 5 players hit at least 20 home runs
BUST: 4 players with 20+ home runs, 2 others had 18,17 respectively. So close!
Arizona Diamondbacks: SP Angel Aguilar will finish top 3 in NL Cy Young voting
BUST: Had a good season (4.4 WAR) but no where close in the talk of Cy Young. More like Sy from Duck Dynasty.
