I wish the NHL would do something...
I just switched to DirecTV. My zip code puts in a strange sports limbo.
Keep in mind that I am 10 minutes from the border of NY State, 80 miles from Midtown Manhattan and 160 miles from Boston.
Dish Network considers us to be "Boston" so we would only get Red Sox, Bruins, and Celtics.
Cable gives us all Boston and New York Sports outside of Islanders and Devils. So Rangers, Knicks, Bruins, Red Sox, Mets, and Yankees, Nets. One provider gave us Celtics, the other doesnt.
DirecTV gives us again a mix of Boston and New York. Bruins, Red Sox, Mets, Yankees, Celtics, and Nets.
The problem for me is im a diehard Rangers fan. So im forced to purchase the NHL Center Ice. The other night the Rangers were on NHL Network. Because the NHL says that I'm in the Rangers region, the game gets blacked out... Because DirecTV sees the game on NHL Network they black it out on NHL Center Ice (on the MSG and CSN channels the the games are broadcasted. The local team channels.)
I am located less than 5 minutes away from the town directly south and in a different county that would put me in ALL New York sports region.
Obviously football is left out as they are all broadcasted on Local TV and Connecticut is mostly a Giants on Fox state. They even got the one up on the Patriots this year in the state. We also get Jets and Pats on local tv here. I do get CT locals in HD and some NY locals in non-HD.
