Baseball is a sport rife with feel good stories, and this week Orioles fans got to experience a great one. 37 year old Jason van Skike made his first career start in the Summit Baseball League, pitching 7 innings with 4 hits allowed, 2 walks, and no earned runs. After finishing the 7th, van Skike left the field with a 1-0 lead. Raul Mendez came on to close the game out in the 8th and 9th.

Apparently he's had enough. Ralph 'Stan the Man' Doolittl was livid this morning during batting practice.
"This is my third season in Baltimore," he was quoted saying, "and they still can't spell my name right!"
Apparently the preferred spelling is Doolittle, and the typo originally occurred when his draft paperwork didn't fax correctly into the league office. According to Doolittle's agent, GM/coach Davis had been made aware of the issue when the outfielder played in his first professional game. Ralph has also asked that people stop referring to him as 'Stan the Man'.
"I have nothing in common skill-wise with Stan Musial. This needs to stop."
In other news, apparently the spelling of Herman McCaa is also a rough one for the Orioles jersey-makers.

Any chance I could get Doolittl's info changed in-game with the next sim?
Also the random capital letter in McCaa's last name.

Maybe a separate thread and we all throw in our mis-cast, mis-spelt player names? Oh those mis-fits....

I changed Tomas Gonzales' knickname from 'Lion' to 'Pudgy.'

I think having the extra E sewn on to Doolittle's shirt caused him to be slightly off balance leading to him becoming injured.
