Took me a bit to post this because I was too busy wincing. That poor bullpen was exhausted before the injury... The Sox have picked up Brad Ziegler in a decent move but Uehara is looking 41 (finally) and there's no real relief in sight since 2 of the current starters remain Buchholtz (5.91 ERA and an average of 5.1 IP per start) and Rodriguez (8.59 ERA with 4.2 IP per start). espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/16998262/craig-kimbrel-boston-red-sox-surgery-repair-torn-cartilage

yeh I hope Dombrowski doesn't make any panic moves and trade away the farm for someone like Greinke, there are too many holes to try and fill pitching wise, better off making smaller moves like the Zielgler and Hill trades and hope someof the struggling players turn it around, watchng a young core of Betts, Bogaerts, Bradley, Benitendi and Moncada should provide years of enjoyment.

Yeah, I totally agree. Dombrowski has a track record of trading farms away but I sure hope he resists the urge this time.

Yeah, I totally agree. Dombrowski has a track record of trading farms away but I sure hope he resists the urge this time. "We'll be talking about college senior filler guys in the 15th round, and Theo's asking, 'Why are we putting him here?' There are times when I'm like, 'Theo, you have way more important things to worry about than this guy we're filling out our short-season team with.' It goes back to him being driven to make the best decisions at all levels of the organization. He's going to challenge you on why you're recommending a certain move, or why you want a pitcher in A-ball to throw a slider over a curve. He's completely invested in the health of the organization at all levels.'' That's great-ness. Something I strive for in my day job. Reading that drives me to work harder to be that way.

Drew Pomeranz is joining the Red Sox rotation. Nice pick-up, but rumors are a nice prospect was sent back.

Drew Pomeranz is joining the Red Sox rotation. Nice pick-up, but rumors are a nice prospect was sent back. 18 year old SP prospect Anderson Espinoza headed to SD. Keith Law's #14 prospect in all of baseball. Hopefully Pomeranz isn't a mirage, or Boston massively over payed.

Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. I personally (having watched Pom some) think it's a massive overpay. Pom's track record of success is very recent (half a season?) and yeah, it coincides with him introducing a cutter into his arsenal, so maybe it's legit. Also, he's young and under very cheap contract for a few more years. But is he worth the #14 prospect in all of baseball? Absolutely not. >< I also don't think he's going to turn this into a playoff team but that's Dombrowski's thing--what I guess he was brought to Boston to do, ie trade away a great farm system for mediocre players and torture Red Sox fans. So far so good I guess. And then there's the news that Tazawa is heading to the DL, which is absolutely not surprising considering the innings that have been heaped on the bullpen this year due to having half a starting rotation: espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/17079570/boston-red-sox-place-junichi-tazawa-dl

He's young, too, so he's likely going to be around for decades to come (or so I hope, as a fan of baseball). Good on the Cubs for going out and getting him.

There is something you guys don't consider when it comes to making trades in real life... The Red Sox actually have fans who care and they want to win every year. So the fact that they are 2 games out of 1st place with a really crappy pitching rotation means Dombrowski has to try and improve it. There is no "wait for next year and the year after and see if this #14 prospect in all of baseball pans out eventually". I think its a fine trade that avoids giving away all the hitting prospects that teams want. And even the best prospects in baseball might not ever amount to anything in the majors. And the fact that Espinoza is years away from even being called up to a major league roster... well we can live without. Job well done Dombrowski.

I'm ok with it just being Espinoza going, having signed Price and with some good young hitting and after finishing bottom of the AL East 3 out of the last 4 years, I think this is what Dombrowski was brought in to do. Espinoza is a long way off and Boston has really struggled to develop pitching in their minors, all the depth they had for this year with Rodriguez, Owens and Brian Johnson really haven't taken the step forward and with Buchholz stinking up the joint.
Still if it was me who had a player like Espinoza in this league, he wouldn't be going anywhere.
Just glad it's not a package containing Moncada, Benintendi or Devers

Tazawa struggled at the end of last season too from being overused as he seemed to be one of the only relievers Farrel seemed to trust.
